Client Case: Republic of Georgia
ASSESSMENT OF CAPABILITIES AND NEEDS OF GOVERNMENT RESEARCH INSTITUTES
For the Republic of Georgia, Capital City Venture/ Georgia Innovation Technology Agency (GITA), the project assessed capabilities and needs of government research institutes.
Participants & Process
Technology assessments conducted at 22 Government research institutes by an assessment team, experienced in research and development, industry, and commercialization. The purpose was to identify research with commercial potential.
Other objectives included raising awareness of the institutes’ potential for research cooperation with industry and to motivate staff to commercialize research.
- Alistair Brett and Capital City Venture consultants.
Decision filters were applied to reduce ~100 projects submitted to a final 14. Filters included: features of the research attractive to corporate partners; comparison with other R&D being conducted elsewhere; strength of the institute’s research team; new or competitive features of the technology; and stage of the development.
- Recommendations for continued development of commercialization from Georgia’s research institutes, including pathways for next steps in commercializing the selected projects with commercial potential.
